The Deep Sea Master Mariner: Jaeger LeCoultre’s OTHER Diving Watch

1969 was one year after Jaeger LeCoultre produced the second iteration of its now classic diver, the Polaris .?? It was also the year that the watch you see to the left was produced.? It is a Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Master Mariner, an aviator’s watch if we’ve ever seen one.? Just kidding, this uber-nautically named watch is actually one we’ve never come across in our years of scouring the globe for great watches.

It is important because besides the Polaris, JLC didn’t really have much to offer in the way of REAL divers in the 60s and 70s. Sure, their Master Mariner was there but let’s be honest, this isn’t a real diving watch.

The Deep Sea Master Mariner, however, is definitely meant to be worn under water. It features a compressor case, an inner-rotating bezel, and smooth operating JLC movement with date window.? It still has its original black face and patina’d lume on the markers.

We really like this watch for another reason.? It represents a middle ground in vintage JLC’s.? A high-quality, rare watch that has an appropriately high price tag, but one that isn’t SO expensive it’s completely out of the question, like the Polaris.? We have found dozens of Memovoxes, but authenticity is always a question and many of them have a staid look in our opinion.?

This Deep Sea Master Mariner is a watch that really shows its LeCoultre roots, and we like it a lot.? Price is $4,250.? Click here for the details and more pictures.
