If you’re a regular ‘dink reader, you may have noticed that some Arab leaders like having their national emblems or pictures printed on the dials of fine wristwatches. These watches have often been given as gifts and they occasionally come up for sale. Such watches can serve as a conversation-starter, and most certainly an attention-getter.

The House of Saud seems to have had a particular affinity for Universal Geneve, one of the great Swiss brands of yore. We have seen a few Saudi UGs come up for sale over the years, but this 14kt rose gold UG with a crown integrated into the case and a textured dial is probably our favorite.

The watch features the Saudi Arabian coat of arms at the 12 o’clock position and “Saud” written in Arabic at the 6 o’clock position. This watch appears to have been made in the 1950s and is available for $1,295, which seems like a pretty fair price given this watch’s rarity and quality.
